BGR Geoviewer & Productcentre
The BGR Geoviewer and Product Centre make up the new central module within the spatial data infrastructure of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR).
Everything in sight, everything accessible
The BGR Geoviewer and Product Centre make up the new central module within the spatial data infrastructure of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR). The Geoviewer serves as a central means of viewing interdisciplinary, uniform presentations of all geoscientific products of the BGR. The Product Centre gives users uniform and standardised access to the BGR's geodata products. Product descriptions relating to geodata and web services can be collected and rendered searchable by simple means.
With the new Geoviewer, spatial data services of varying, interdisciplinary basic maps that are offered by the BGR can be viewed and combined. This is the first time that all BGR maps – from national to global scales – have been gathered together and made available via a uniform application at a central place (http://geoviewer.bgr.de). The Geoviewer's new operating concept enables convenient browsing within a map gallery, in which every product can be selected. Fast, simple, and clearly laid out.
Efficient and sustainable
The technical realisation of the Geoviewer is based on the map.apps web application platform from con terra. This future-proof technology offers the BGR a uniform operating and management environment not only for all specialist functions of the geodata viewer but also for generally required technical, cross-sectional functions as well as uniform access to relevant data sources. A wide range of apps can be configured and operated from the platform, and functions are provided in the system exactly once. Moreover, the use of map.apps offers the best opportunities for the future structure and development of the Geoviewer, while additional apps that cover the broad range of BRG activities, can be simply created.
The BGR Geoviewer is closely interlinked with the BGR Product Centre. The Product Centre not only offers an easy to use search environment with standards-compliant input screens but is also the interface to the 'Geodateninfrastruktur Deutschland' (GDI-DE) as well as the European spatial data infrastructure, INSPIRE.
With the Product Centre, which is based on the smart.finder SDI from con terra, and the BGR Geoviewer, you are only one click away from both specialist-content map displays and descriptive metainformation. By including all of this in the new product portal, it is now easy for both the public and geoscience experts to find comprehensive information about BGR products.
