WaGIS - Information Management for the Waterways in Germany

German Water and Waterways Administration (WSV)

WaGIS is a geodata infrastructure that was developed for the Federal Inland Waterways and Shipping Administration using a variety of accessing tools. WaGIS is repository containing a from which a great variety of data can be retrieved in the field of inland waterway construction.

To order by the national Water and Waterways Administration, the CSC Ploenzke consortium (general contractor), Esri Germany and con terra developed a geoinformation system for the management, evaluation and distribution of spatial information used in the operational range of the respective state departments.

Within this context, con terra developed the core components for the transparent management of spatial data from different sources (ArcInfo, Mycrostation) within a central data store, using the ArcSDE Spatial Database Engine, the IBM/Informix Dynamic Server and the Informix Spatial Datablade.

The implementation of the data management is independent from the information model of the datasets stored in the database. Data access is controlled by a metadata component, which was designed and implemented by con terra.

Further components perform the visualisation based on the MapObjects Internet Map Server (Esri) and the connection of ArcView 3.x as a WAGIS client.
