Mobile GeoComputing
Collecting and Updating Spatial Data in Terrain
Mobile GeoComputing is the name given to data collecting and retrieval systems that use spatial data or services and are not locally restricted. They can be employed wherever information is needed, collected or examined.
There is a wide range of hardware and software solutions available, including ArcPad for PDAs and GISPAD or ArcEditor and additional components for use on TabletPCs in the field
Mobile systems used to be purely offline solutions, i.e. basis data and attributive data was collected locally and stored in the mobile system. This data, and any updated data was then synchronised with the GI system upon returning from the field.
However, the steady rise in the availability of wireless networks, such as WLAN, GSM and UMTS, as well as the suitability of web services, such as Web Mapping Services or Web Feature Services are adding new possibilities to working with spatial data in the field.
con terra's GISPAD programme is a high-end solution and benefits from cooperations with renowned hardware and software suppliers which allows the company to offer complete solutions for a wide variety of application areas.
