FME - Feature Manipulation Engine
FME is a universal Spatial ETL tool that supports the accessing, processing and outputting of well over 300 GIS, CAD, BIM/3D and database formats.
As a result of its virtually limitless possibilities when it comes to processing spatial data, FME is extremely well suited for use as a migration tool, and it represents a powerful component within spatial data infrastructures.
FME imports source formats and transforms them into a system-neutral feature format. These features can then be edited with the aid of a large number of so-called transformers. The data structure thus created can then be exported in any desired target format.
FME in brief:
- Data modelling and conversion using 'drag and drop'
- Imports and exports well over 200 GIS, CAD and database formats
- Support of 3D formats (e.g. KML, CityGML, VRML)
- Geoprocessing of vector and raster data
- Schema Mapping
- Complex data refinement
- Efficient automation
- Quality assurance
FME Desktop Edition and FME Server
In addition to the various Desktop Editions the new and powerful FME Server is available now. FME workspaces (created by FME Workbench on the Desktop) can be published directly to FME Server. So CAD, GIS and other professionals throughout an organization can run FME processes over the web. With FME Server spatial data can be dynamically transformed and delivered as a Web Streaming Service to give end users immediate access to the most current spatial data. Due to FME Server’s schema mapping and data transformation capabilities it is possible to produce INSPIRE compliant secondary datasets or services based on any application related data models.
