FME Extension for ArcGIS
The FME Extension for ArcGIS gives the user direct access to well over 100 spatial data formats from ArcCatalog, ArcGlobe, ArcMap or ArcToolbox. This makes it possible to use non-ESRI formats as basis information, or for analysis or evaluation purposes, without the need for prior conversion.
This data is edited by means of the Quick Import and Quick Export functions. In this way, all supported formats can be imported into ESRI formats or exported into any supported format.
In addition, the extension integrates a large proportion of the FME functionality in ArcGIS, which makes it possible for complex editing processes to take place while using pre-defined FME workflows in the geoprocessing framework.
The FME Extension for ArcGIS is an integral part of the FME ESRI Edition.
FME technology provides support in the creation, maintenance and transfer of virtual 3D city models
There are now many city and district councils who are currently creating their own virtual 3D city models. As the standard laid down by the Open Geospatial Consortiums (OGC) by which 3D city models are exchanged, CityGML plays a central role in these activities. FME is the spatial ETL tool made by the company Safe Software Inc. from Canada. It not only supports CityGML, but also a number of other GIS and CAD formats.
Using FME, it is possible to create CityGML data, easily and flexibly, from a variety of different data formats, based on existing information.
FME technology allows users without programming knowledge to perform all the activities typically required for the production of 3D city models, such as generating 3D building models from 2D footprints, transferring complex CAD models, integrating attribute data, intersecting with laser scan data, and updating existing models.
PlugIns
PlugIns are software extensions to FME from Safe Software Inc. itself, from con terra GmbH or from third parties. PlugIns can make available additional data formats (Reader and Writer) or can provide new functionality (Transformers).
